eufyCam 2 Review: Six Years On, Real Battery Life Numbers

A eufyCam 2 two-camera kit bought in June 2020 is the only camera hardware in this house that has never failed, while three cameras from other brands died within a couple of years. Battery life came in at three to six months per charge rather than the advertised 365 days, but that was with every setting turned up on an exterior wall facing a busy sidewalk, which is close to the worst case. It recorded through HomeKit Secure Video, and the HomeBase 2 is still live on the network today.
I bought a eufyCam 2 kit, two cameras and a HomeBase 2, on June 27, 2020. Six years later it is the only camera hardware in this house that has never let me down.
That sounds like faint praise until you see what happened to everything else. Two Logitech Circle 2 cameras from 2017 and a D-Link Omna from 2019 all died within about two years, which I’ve written up in nine years of camera longevity. The eufy kit outlasted all three and is still functional.
Battery life, honestly
eufy advertised 365 days per charge. I got three to six months.
Before you treat that as a broken promise, the conditions matter. I had every recording setting turned up as far as it would go, deliberately minimising how much the cameras slept, and one of them was mounted on an exterior wall overlooking a busy sidewalk. Every person who walked past was a wake event.
That’s close to a worst case. A camera on a quiet side of a house, on default settings, would land far nearer eufy’s number. Three to six months is what maximum sensitivity costs you, and I chose that trade knowingly because I wanted the coverage.
Recharging two cameras two to four times a year is a real chore, and it’s the single thing that keeps this from being a five.
HomeKit Secure Video
The cameras bridge into Apple Home through the HomeBase 2, and they recorded through HomeKit Secure Video. Clips analysed on my home hub, encrypted, stored in iCloud under a plan I was already paying for. No eufy subscription.
This is the setup I’d point people at if they want camera footage that isn’t sitting on a manufacturer’s servers in a form the manufacturer can read.
Placement
One indoor, one outdoor, and the mix moved around over the years. The weatherproofing did its job on the exterior unit through several seasons without any water intrusion or fogging that I noticed.
What the network says today
The cameras are uncharged at the moment, so nothing is reporting into Apple Home. The HomeBase 2, though, is still sitting on my network and answering.
Scanning for HomeKit accessories finds it as eufy HomeBase2-4949, model eufy HomeBase2/ T8010, advertising as a bridge on the local network with a configuration number of nine. Six
years after purchase it is powered, reachable and doing exactly what it did on day one.
Nothing about this kit has broken. It’s sitting idle because I let the batteries run down and haven’t got round to it.
The other eufy camera
Two weeks after the kit, on July 12, 2020, I bought a eufy 2K Indoor Cam as well. It’s the plug-in model, sold these days as the Indoor Cam C120. That one has worked well too. It’s unplugged at the moment because I’ve lost track of where I put it.
Two eufy products bought a fortnight apart, six years ago, no failures between them. That’s the whole reason eufy is the camera brand I’d buy from again, and it’s a conclusion drawn from what happened rather than from a spec sheet.
Hands-on notes
Bought June 27, 2020. Two cameras plus a HomeBase 2, run in a mix of indoor and outdoor positions, recording through HomeKit Secure Video rather than a eufy subscription.
Battery life ran three to six months per charge with settings maxed out and one camera facing a busy sidewalk. No failures, no dead units, no re-pairing that I can recall. The HomeBase 2 is live on my network as I write this, six years on.
Both cameras are currently uncharged, which is a me problem rather than a product one.
Verdict
Four and a half out of five. It lost half a point to the recharging cycle, and it earned the rest by simply continuing to work in a category where I’ve watched three other cameras die.
Buy a current eufy model rather than this one, which is superseded. If you run the settings hard, plan for a charge every few months rather than annually, and put the busiest camera somewhere you can reach without a ladder.

The kit itself is old now and eufy sells newer models. The reason to look at eufy is the track record: this kit has run since June 2020 without a failure, in a house where two Logitech Circle 2 cameras and a D-Link Omna died within about two years each.
Do eufy cameras need a subscription?
No. Recording goes to the HomeBase locally, and through HomeKit Secure Video it goes to iCloud under an iCloud+ plan you may already pay for. There is no separate eufy monthly fee.
