I'm Matthew Easterday, and homekit.reviews is my house. The site does one thing: tells you which HomeKit, Thread, and Matter gear keeps working after the first two weeks, and which doesn't.

Everything reviewed here was bought, paired, and lived with in a real home, some of it for close to a decade.

Why this site exists

The smart-home space is full of spec-sheet roundups written by people who never plugged the device in. Matter and Thread break on version specifics and real-world mesh behavior that a spec sheet can't capture. So I buy the gear, live with it, and report what happened, including the annoying parts.

Ten years in

My first HomeKit device went in back in 2016, an iDevices Switch bought direct from the maker, and I reviewed it on YouTube that August. Two of those plugs are still switching lights in this house today, and what a decade did to them is on this site.

Since then the house has run most of what Apple Home supports: smart plugs and power strips, two generations of thermostats, contact and motion and leak sensors, air quality monitors, security cameras, smart locks, a garage door opener, color bulbs, and IKEA's Matter over Thread range as it arrives. Some of it aged well. Some of it failed early, and some of it outlived its own manufacturer. All three outcomes become reviews.
